FOL Fun Facts!
- The FOL is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose sole mission is to support the Franklin County Library. We educate the public about services, facilities and needs of the Library and we raise money to cover its programs, staff training and supplies.
- The Library is funded by the Franklin County government and the City of Winchester. There are restrictions, however, on how that money can be used. The Friends step in and raise money to fill in those gaps. (The Library receives state and federal money only in the form of grants and materials.)
- Sales from our Book Nook average about $3000 per year.
- Money from the Friends helped to pay for the "Trail Tale" (book trail) at the Winchester City Park. In the future, we will fund Trails Tales in Huntland and along the Mountain Goat Trail. We hope to add one along the Estill Springs greenway.
- We raised money to help furnish the Children's Library downstairs.
- Each year, we fund and assist with the Trail of Tears observances and other community programs.
- We promote local authors by organizing book signings here at the library.
- We envision a capital campaign to renovate and furnish our History Center next door. Expenses will include paint, flooring, plumbing, blinds, chairs, bookshelves, office furniture and workhorses for processing books.
